A tall, thin, and quiet prince of the ranch for he is both respected and admired in the ranch.

III. Setting
  • The time period is never stated. The story took place in two places. It starts beside a stream, close to the Salinas River, a few miles South of Soledad, and then moves to a ranch.
  • The setting has an important effect on main character for in the first setting, there he told lennie to hide, and it is also the same place where he killed Lennie.

IV Plot: The Action/Summary of What Happened in the Story

  • Lennie and George were forced to leave Weed because Lennie was accused of rape. They spent their night in a stream after getting off a bus that took them from Weed to Soledad.

  • The next day, George and Lennie arrive at the ranch where they will work. They are welcomed by Candy. Their boss come into the Bunk house and was angry to them for weren't around for the morning work shift. Came next to check on them is Curley. They also meet some of the ranch workers.
      • Carlson, discuss the idea of killing Candy's old dog and giving him one of the new puppies instead. Candy told George that he should have shot his dog himself, not let a stranger do the task.
      • Curley thinks Lennie is making fun of him because he had seen him smiling. He begins hitting Lennie, who refused to fight back not until George told him. Lennie grabbed Curley's hand and begun flipping him until he crushed his hand.
      •  Lennie had handled his puppy too much and had broken its neck. As he tried to hide the animal, Curley's wife came into the barn. She talked to Lennie about some stuff. She let Lennie hold her hair but he had hold on too tight that the woman begun to struggle and yell. Lennie panicked, breaking her neck just as he had done to the puppy.
      • The final scene was that Lennie goes to the bush where George will meet him. There George told him about their dreams and shoot Lennie’s back.

          V. Theme

          • What is the author trying to say in this story? Is there a moral to this story?
The author wants to tell us what true friendship is all about and it also tells us about a story of loyalty and sacrifice. The story tells us that we should never hate a person just because of what of his incapable of. It tells us that we should widen our visualizations and try to understand other people.

          • This book showed me/I learned from this story:
I learned from this story we should be more understanding to those people who are impaired. I also learned from the story the true meaning of friendship and what can it did.

          • State a problem in the story and how it was solved
When Lennie accidentally killed Curley’s wife he realized that he couldn't get Lennie out of this problem anymore. George didn't want to see Lennie to be killed by Curley so he decided he had to do it himself. This relates to Candy’s Dog.

          VI. Evaluation of the Book

          • What are your thoughts about the book?
I like this book because it tells us the great story of love and friendship and how much a person can go further to show this.
